Today I write about real life -- it is so
juicy that I seem to never have a day go by without challenge, pushing the
envelope, coming face to face with myself, and having to eat some form of
humble pie. In short, daily I get to remember I am human.
I USED to say "only human." Now
I am tempted to write it all in capital letters. HUMAN. Being a human being
means owning up to our beautiful bodies, enjoying our senses, engaging in
creative pursuits, being able to think, conceptualize, and experience love, joy,
gratitude, peace. Being human also means having a sometimes tired body,
over-indulging our senses, engaging in trivial pursuits, and being able to
judge, misperceive, and experience anger, fear, grief, angst.
Being human means we get to embrace it
all. SO today, I went into a meeting thinking I had it all right, and found out
there was a different way of looking at things. I got to see myself and laugh
at my self-imposed pedestal, and then kick it out from under my feet to come
back to ground.
The cool thing about today is that I was able to clearly see
the truth, even if the truth was a bit painful. Because I have these yoga tools, I have a surefire tried and true way to come back to my center and
move from that place. It doesn't mean I never get lost; however it does mean I can find
my way back easily.
Today,
embrace all of your “human-ness.” And yet even in that embracing, realize
another human quality – the ability to choose how to respond or react to any
situation, emotion, or feeling with objectivity. Watch all your myriad
emotions, embrace all of your many sides, and use these “choices” to exercise
your free agency.
